Dr. S. Nabeel Hyder presented the moderated poster "Same-day Discharge After Elective PCI – Why Put Off To Tomorrow What Can Be Done Today? Insights From The BMC2 Registry” during the American College of Cardiology 73rd Annual Scientific Session & Expo April 6th – 8th, 2024 in Atlanta.

Placement of coronary artery stents for chronic heart disease symptoms can be performed electively on an outpatient basis. Advances in stent-procedure safety allow for shorter post-procedural observation periods.

This study used BMC2 data to show that "same-day discharge" after elective stent procedures is increasingly common and is a safe option with low readmission rates.

“Practice patterns differ widely by hospital location, indicating that further work is needed to expand same-day discharge pathway availability to all appropriate patients,” said Dr. Hyder. “Patients planning to undergo an elective coronary stent placement procedure should discuss with their doctors if they are candidates for a same-day discharge following the procedure.”
