The BMC2 Coordinating Center welcomes Mollie Bodin, MA, as its new program manager. Mollie joined BMC2 from 8 years in the University of Michigan Medical School Office of Research where she led strategic and organizational initiatives across numerous units within and beyond the Medical School. She worked to resolve complex issues, build bridges, and transform culture.

Mollie was a founding member of the Clinical Trials Support Office, the key office within the Medical School’s $30 million Clinical Trials Transformation strategic initiative.

“BMC2 is at this amazing intersection of collaboration, strategy, and innovation – I am excited to join the team and impact this space of transformative change,” said Mollie.

Mollie was drawn to BMC2 by its passionate team and finds its collective vision to improve patient outcomes empowering. She looks forward to further expanding BMC2’s efforts in health equity.

“Mollie’s previous work in the fields of history, law, and medicine positions her well as a leader in continuing BMC2’s mission of improving quality of care and outcomes for Michigan cardiovascular patients,” said BMC2 Program Director, Dr. Hitinder Gurm.

Mollie holds a Bachelor of Arts in History and English from Lawrence University. She earned an MA in history from the University of Wisconsin–Milwaukee. “Following the themes of the women warriors I studied, my career has been a circuitous route of curiosity & innovative opportunity,” Mollie said. “I’ve always been drawn to innovation that makes the world a better place and BMC2 has proven success that aligns with this core value.”

“We look forward to this new chapter with Mollie as our program manager and her leadership in our continued commitment to collaboration in the spirit of improving patient care,” said Dr. Gurm.

BMC2 is one of 22 Collaborative Quality Initiatives (CQIs) sponsored by Blue Cross Blue Shield. CQIs work to improve many of the most common and costly areas of surgical and medical care in Michigan.

BMC2 comprises three multi-center quality improvement registries:

  • Percutaneous Coronary Intervention (PCI); procedures that treat blockages in the arteries that supply blood to the heart, including heart stenting.
  • Vascular Surgery - conditions related to blood vessels including:
    • Peripheral Vascular Disease - Issues with blood flow in the arms, legs, and other parts of the body.
    • Aneurysms - Weakened areas in blood vessels that can bulge or even burst.
    • Carotid Arteries - The main arteries that carry blood to the brain and head.
  • The Michigan Structural Heart Consortium (MISHC) – a collaboration between BMC2 and the Michigan Society of Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgeons (MSTCVS) – serves patients who undergo structural heart procedures including transcatheter aortic valve replacement, mitral valve replacement, and mitral valve repair procedures.

The collaborative also includes the Michigan Cardiac Rehab Network, a collaboration with fellow CQI, the Michigan Value Collaborative (MVC).

Support for BMC2 is provided by Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Michigan (BCBSM) and Blue Care Network as part of the BCBSM Value Partnerships program. Although BCBSM and BMC2 work collaboratively, the opinions, beliefs, and viewpoints expressed by the authors do not necessarily reflect the opinions, beliefs, and viewpoints of BCBSM or any of its employees. Further, BCBSM does not have access to BMC2 data, and all patient episodes occurring at engaged hospitals are included in the data registries, regardless of payer.
