Hands hold a sign saying "acute kidney injury"

The PCI Best Practice Protocol Task Force has put together a new best practice protocol (BPP) for prevention of contrast-induced acute kidney injury (CI-AKI). Prevention of CI-AKI requires attention to two goals, adequate pre-procedural hydration and renal function-based contrast dosing.  This BPP offers a step-by-step outline of prevention of AKI including information on pre-procedure hydration, additional considerations, and follow up. The full protocol can be viewed under the “Quality Improvement” section of our website. Thank you to our PCI best practice protocol task force, Michael Tucciarone of Beaumont Troy, Javier Valle of St. Joseph Mercy Ann Arbor, Ryan Madder of Spectrum Health, Edouard Daher of Ascension St. John, and BMC2 Program Director, Hitinder Gurm and Associate Program Director, Devraj Sukul. Click here to view the BPP.
