Highlights and key takeaways from the BMC2 VS Physician Virtual Meeting, February 24, 2026, 5 – 6:30 pm.

New Medications Data Definitions

New for January 2026 discharges:

  • GLP-1 agonists (ex: Ozempic and Trulicity)
  • SGLT-2 inhibitors (ex: Jardiance and Invokana)

These medications are often used for diabetes, but we will collect this data for all patients regardless of diagnosis. Including these medications helps us understand more about medication usage and emerging therapies in vascular surgery patients.

Exit Interview Best Practice

  • BMC2 is working towards increasing site engagement and site recognition by having the Physician Champion and VS Director attend exit interviews.
  • There is an opportunity to utilize existing meetings already being held at the site, such as service line meetings, MM meetings, and quality meetings to spur attendance, communication, and increase understanding of the “why” at sites.

BMC2 is recruiting patients to help develop EVAR follow-up materials

  • Why? EVAR patient voices should drive this deliverable
  • There is an opportunity for the patients to join the VS PAC after this project
  • Patients will share their experiences as an EVAR patient or caregiver, will help physicians create resources to improve care and support, and will be paid for their time and participation.
  • Sites receive P4P extra credit point for each recruited patient
  • Patients who are interested can fill out this Patient Advisory Council Information Form or contact the BMC2 Coordinating Center directly by emailing bmc2.info@umich.edu

CARES Program

BMC2 has partnered with the Michigan Urological Surgery Improvement Collaborative (MUSIC) to provide peer support for vascular surgeons through the Coping with AdveRse EventS (CARES) program.  To learn more, or request support, visit the CARES page on musicurology.com.

Meeting Speakers:

  • Kevin Turner, MA, DM FRCS, a Consultant Urological Surgeon and Visiting Professor with Bournemouth University, UK, presented information on the SUPPORT Improvement Collaborative, relating to “supporting surgeons when things go wrong”.

  • Betsy Gall Moody, author of "The Illusion of the Perfect Profession," shared a deeply personal and heartfelt story. Because of the sensitive nature of her story, the video has been omitted from the slide deck.

Program Highlights & Site Engagement

Themes included strengthened collaboration with physician champions, improved data workflows, increased transparency in performance metrics, and targeted efforts to address drops in scorecard performance. You can watch Joe and Liz’s presentations on our BMC2 YouTube channel.

You can access these PowerPoint presentations via your secure NextCloud link.

Operational & Program Updates:

  • The transition from Duo to Okta for 2‑factor authentication was reviewed, with coordinators advised to complete enrollment by February 25 to maintain REDCap access. Users should continue to use DUO through February 24th.
  • A proposed adjustment to the QI project upload deadline, moving the due date from December to November, was approved by BMC2 VS coordinators and hospital team members to support more sustainable year-end workflows.
  • The 2026 Physician Champion meeting schedule was shared, including changes to required sessions and the addition of a fourth meeting.
  • The 2025 P4P Scorecard will be ready for your review around mid-March due to the delayed Medicare claims data to score our cardiac rehab measure.
  • The next  BMC2 VS Coordinator Webinar is on March 18.
